Message From Chairman

Bangladesh is one of the country’s most vulnerable to environmental pollution and degradation, because it’s rapid economic development and population expansion. The demand for environmental professionals and those trained in environmental management, planning and pollution control are, therefore, acute and warrants solution to environmental degradations and ensure sustainable development. Considering such context, the Department of Environmental Science and Technology (EST) was set up at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) in 2009. The Dept. of EST is one of the four eminent Departments during the academic inauguration of JUST.

The Dept. focuses on fundamental and problem-oriented researches and provides solutions that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, culture, societal, economical, ethical, environmental and sustainability issues. To support research activities, we have two high-end laboratories; one is Environmental Chemistry Laboratory equipped with state of art instruments for water, air, soil and microbiological research and the other is GIS and RS Laboratory for modelling, mapping and remote sensing research.

This Dept. offers courses related to the key issues of environment and pollution control such as Soil, Water and Environment, Environmental Chemistry, Waste Management, Noise Pollution, Disaster Management, Environmental Pollution, Environmental Management System (EMS), Toxicology, Ecology, Biodiversity, Ecotourism, Environmental Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, Modelling, GIS and Remote Sensing, Climatic Change etc in B. Sc. (Hons.); M. Sc.; M. Phill, and Ph. D. levels. These courses are designed to inform students of fundamental principles and rigorous scientific understanding about pollution control and environmental management. Our program includes extensive Laboratory work, field trips, project-oriented assignments, research and project work to ensure students’ practical learning.
